Jon Schaffer is the founder and guitarist of heavy metal band Iced Earth. While they may not be a household name like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, Iced Earth has had a devoted and loyal fan base going back over 20 years. As you may know, Shaffer is in federal custody for not only being one of the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, but he also allegedly bear-maced members of the Capitol Police.
In the legal department, federal prosecutors are looking to have Schaffer held without bond. He’ll be going in front of a judge later today.
In the musical department, heavy metal record label Century Media, have removed Iced Earth from their website. This could mean that Iced Earth have been dropped from their label due to Schaffer’s actions. If that is the case, that sucks for the other members of Iced Earth who had nothing to do with Schaffer’s antics. Then again, as talented as Schaffer is, he’s been known to be kind of an ego-maniac. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t take his bandmates into consideration.
UPDATE 1/25/21: This past Friday, Schaffer waived a preliminary hearing in Indiana and will now be extradited to Washington D.C.
