Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer in federal custody

In my post about the Capitol riot, I mentioned that I was a fan of the heavy metal band Iced Earth. I brought that up because Iced Earth’s founder and guitarist Jon Schaffer allegedly took part in the riot. Because of his alleged role, Schaffer was being sought by the FBI.

As I previously mentioned, Schaffer was a known conspiracy theorist, although it never showed in Iced Earth’s music. Shaffer’s pet conspiracy theory seemed to revolve around the Federal Reserve Bank. He reportedly believes that a shadowy criminal enterprise is attempting to run a world government under a Communist agenda. However, since he was at the riot, I imagine that he’s bought into the QAnon conspiracy theories as well.

Anyway, I’m getting off-topic. Shaffer turned himself into federal authorities yesterday. Schaffer was allegedly among those who were spraying Capitol Police with bear mace. He’s been charged with six offenses including engaging in an act of physical violence in a Capitol building.

The reason I’m posting this is Jon Schaffer is immensely talented, and he’s wasting that talent by allegedly engaging in seditious acts fueled by outlandish lies about a stolen election. At one time I even thought about getting an Iced Earth lyric tattooed on me. It’s from my favorite song of all time called A Charge to Keep and the lyric is “Please God give me the strength to lead / Make the sorrow the fuel I need”.

Going forward, I will probably never buy another Iced Earth album if there ever is another one. That’s a shame because their music used to be such an integral piece of my life.

I choose to remember the good times, but I’ll also remember the good times ended on January 6th, 2021.
