Season 23 State of the Blog Address

With my 23rd year of writing this website just starting, I’m at loss about what direction I should take the website in. In the past, I’ve mainly discussed three main topics and one sub-topic. The main topics were school violence, social media crimes, and online classifieds crimes. The sub-topic was child abuse but I’ve since limited that to only discussing parents who try to hide that their children were missing, but I digress.

I’m at a crossroads for a number of reasons. The first is that last year I had a major change in my political philosophies. Previously, I was a supporter of 2nd Amendment rights. That was until last year when a 19-year-old with a record of violence and mental health issues legally purchased firearms and killed 17 at a Florida high school. At that point, while I still believe the shooters are ultimately responsible, too many of these shootings can be prevented if the guns are prevented from being purchased in the first place. In other words, I have become a gun control supporter. Or gun reform, if you will.

The problem is that there are so many unnecessary gun deaths in our country that I can’t possibly cover them all. So, in that vein, I will be sticking with those that concern schools. It seems like at least once a week, if not more, that loaded guns are being found carried by students into our middle and high schools.

As far as school shooting threats go there are too many for me to handle anymore so I’m canceling The Daily Threat feature on the blog. You’ll still be able to find those on my Twitter account. I also can’t post every online predator that gets arrested. They’ll also be found on my Twitter account.

In the meantime, I’ll be experimenting with what stories I post, however, school violence and the like will continue to be the main focus as it’s what I started out with. With school violence being at an all-time high I feel like that’s what needs to be focused on now more than ever. As always though, that could mean I’ll branch out into different subjects again.

The biggest problem with this site has been time. I’ve always been bad with scheduling and if you’ve listened to the podcast you’ll know that I also have issues with anxiety and depression that keep me from writing a lot of the time. So all my good attentions could be dashed at anytime.

So I ask that you be patient with me as I try to get the website and my schedule organized again so I can start creating more content on a more consistent basis. Any support that you can give would be greatly appreciated.
