Yes, I definitely recommend watching this series. Right now it’s tie for my show of the year with Daredevil. All my fears of Barry Allen being played by someone so young were dissuaded throughout the season as Grant Gustin did a great job of portraying a young Barry Allen haunted by the murder of his mother by the man in yellow. Tom Cavanagh was great in the role of the smarmy pretentious Harrison Wells. He’s an underrated actor who was great in this season. However, what I really want to talk about is the season finale.
***SPOILERS***
How awesome was the finale? Not only were we teased with the possibility of Flashpoint type scenario but I got chills when Barry from the future waved off present Barry from saving his mom. Then we got the nod to the Jay Garrick Flash when his Mercury styled helmet came out of the wormhole.
As far as Reverse Flash/Eobard Thawn goes I hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him. There are too many unanswered questions about him like why he hated Barry so much. What specifically did Barry do that caused Thawn to become Reverse Flash?
Lastly this is a nitpick but time travel in fiction is a pet peeve of mind because they never get it right. Let me get into Comic Book Guy mode for a moment.
So when Eddie kills himself Reverse Flash ceases to exist. If RF ceases to exist then he never goes back in time to give Barry his powers so Barry never becomes the Flash. This is known in science fiction as the Grandfather Paradox.
The worst problem I had with the finale was that it ended on a cliffhanger. I don’t know if I can wait until the fall to see how Barry saves the day.
