Review of Green Lantern: The Animated Series

By now you should know that I’m a Green Lantern fanboy. I even own a Green Lantern ring. So it should come as no surprise that I like this cartoon.

The premise is that Hal Jordan and Kilowog are stuck in the outer reaches of space taking on the Red Lanterns by themselves. The fact that the Red Lanterns are the main antagonists is refreshing as it would have been almost cliché if they had settled on Sinestro. I guess they’re waiting until after the 2nd live-action movie to have Sinestro as a villain.

The first two episodes had the right mix of drama and action and even had the right amount of comedy mixed in.

The only thing I don’t like about the show is the CGI animation style. It looks too much like The Incredibles. While that was a great movie the similar style of animation does not lend itself to the darker parts of GL. There’s plenty of death to go around. I would have preferred a 2d style and would have loved it if they used the same animators from Young Justice.

I only hope that future episodes will have Green Lanterns Guy Gardner and John Stewart. Kyle Rayner can suck it.
